The Ping Identity Status Site

Published: 08/26/2016
What is the status site?
The Ping Identity Status site (https://status.pingidentity.com) provides real time updates for PingOne and PingID solutions as well as our public website.

How are events posted to the status site?
There are two main components to status posts, system component updates and full status messages that trigger push notifications to customers.

System components are tied directly into our system monitoring platforms.  When network or system outages are detected, these components are updated in real time on the status site as our own monitoring systems are triggered.  Each component can take on any one of the 4 operational states, and are triggered by a variety of monitoring systems.
  • Operational - All systems are functional
  • Degraded Performance- We’ve detected issues with certain component features of a service, or are experiencing something unknown
  • Partial Outage - Partial outages are intermittent in nature, or are affecting specific customers
  • Major Outage - A major outage is systemic, and affects all customers and use cases for a service
These monitoring systems cover application performance metrics, error rates, service level indicators, and network availability of the component. When a system component status changes, Ping staff is alerted to investigate further. If warranted, a status message will be posted.

Status messages are verbose updates that are meant to inform customers of sustained failure states and update our customers as quickly as possible as we respond.  Status messages can be triggered in two ways. Any failure detected by our automated monitoring systems will result in an automated status message being posted. The second is if there is a sustained failure state for one of the system components.

Service Type Definitions
Automated Testing
At Ping Identity, we believe in providing our customers as much transparency into our critical systems as possible.  We know you depend on our services to do your work every day, and expect us to perform at our highest levels of availability at all times.  Because of this belief, we are exposing our own automated synthetic testing framework to customers.  Components under the automated testing group are tied directly into our critical path synthetic testing.  When one of our tests sees an issue with a component, feature, or workflow within our platform services these components will trigger automatically and update customers in real time, as our own SRE Team is engaged.

Global Services
Global service components include the core SSO and adapter services of Ping Identity’s platform.  These systems form the core of our global service presence and are shared globally with all our customers.

Regional Services
Regional services are split into the following 3 types:
  • Regional Platform Services - Regional services are tied to specific geographic locations and compartmentalize data within these geographic regions.   Components in this group are broken out by region, and outages in a single region will not have any effect on other regional customer deployments.
  • Regional Mobile Services - Our mobile services are also regionalized.  Each of these components will trigger when our monitoring systems detect issues with mobile components in each area.  Outages in a single region will not affect any other.
  • Regional Integration Services - Integration services include our Identity Orchestration services, provisioning, and directory systems.  These are again regionalized to geographic areas and compartmentalized.
